FURNITURE DESIGNER, TORONTO


Yabu Pushelberg, an award winning interior design firm that specializes in the design of high-end hospitality and retail design is currently seeking a Furniture Designer for our Toronto studio. Successful candidates should consider themselves highly creative and this creativity and passion for design is demonstrated in your outstanding portfolio. We seek designers with Big Ideas and the ability to understand the subtlety and detail required to execute international luxury projects.

The overall scope of the role will be to assist in the development of furniture, fixtures and products.

Key areas of responsibility:

Concept/Schematic
- Sketching, rapid computer modeling, and rendering of specific pieces in coordination with design teams
- Select directional images and research

Design Development
- Flush out and refine approved pieces from concept and schematic phase
- Assist in any information the Spec department may require.

Construction Documents
- Producing and assembling complete buildable drawings for selected pieces (details/sections/orthographic views) of selected furniture pieces for presentation, prototyping and production
- Work with Project Management in the development of prototypes as required

Construction Administration
- Provide sufficient information when requested by the Project Management team in the development of budgets.
- Answer vendor and supplier questions on selected pieces
- Review Shop Drawings and Submittals


Qualifications (necessary skills and experience required):
- Graduate of a 4 year degree or equivalent diploma in Industrial or Furniture design program
- 3+ years of work experience necessary
- Previous experience in luxury hospitality and retail environments is an asset
- Proficient in 3D modeling software: SolidWorks or Rhino, knowledge of associated rendering packages and/or plug-ins
- Strong sketching ability, visualization skills, and a keen sense of proportion
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and techniques; with hands on experience building furniture and products
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), strong graphic and presentation skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to switch and prioritize between several projects or tasks at once, working well both independently and within a team environment
- Ability to switch between different design genres and styles, on a project-to-project basis

Yabu Pushelberg, an award winning interior design firm that specializes in the design of high-end hospitality and retail design is currently seeking Intermediate Designers for our studio. Successful candidates should consider themselves highly creative and this creativity and passion for design is demonstrated in your portfolio.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY: To execute most phases of the production of a project with supervision from Project Leaders and Team Leader. Has a basic understanding of current Yabu Pushelberg Design goals and expectations. With the guidance of a team Leader or Project Leader, able to understand the clients’ requests, needs and desires and has the ability to follow through on them within the context of producing a YP design. Has the ability to mentor Junior Designers.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBITY:

CONCEPT
- Collaborate in the development of concept design through planning, sketching, rendering
- Select directional images, and finishes

SCHEMATIC
- Acquire and coordinate samples from vendors
- Formulate furniture direction
- Further develop concept design with sketches, thumbnails, plans and the creation of specialty finishes
- Refine finish selections

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
- Flush out and refine the approved design language into buildable drawings
- Assist in any information the Spec department may require
- Review and implement design specifications with the Spec department, re: FF&E, hardware, plumbing, and architectural finishes
- Coordinate with outside project consultants such as lighting, MEP, Structural, Signage, kitchen consultants etc., as necessary to complete a well-coordinated project

CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS
- Work with Project Management in the development of specialty custom built items
- Develop a complete drawing package, including detailing, elevations, and plans to YP Standards
- Compilation and finalization of all FF&E pieces with sufficient information to pass through to the Specification Department
- Develop a small drawing package including full design intent of all millwork and custom furniture as per YP Standards
- Continue Coordination with outside project consultants such as lighting, MEP, Structural, Signage, kitchen consultants etc., as necessary to complete a well-coordinated project
- Review and implement necessary changes and additions with the Spec department, re: FF&E, hardware, plumbing, and architectural finishes

CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTARTION
- Provide sufficient information when requested by the Project Management team in the development of budgets
- Answer vendor/contractor’s questions

- Provide site clarifications when necessary


QUAIFICAITONS (necessary skills and experience required):
- At minimum an Associate’s Degree in a related field of Design (Interior design, Architecture)
- 3+ years of work experience necessary
- Adequate Knowledge of the Interior Design Profession
- Previous experience in luxury hospitality and retail environments is a must
- AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch up and b+w hand rendering skills are necessary for the position Additional 3D software skills are an asset

SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER, TORONTO

Yabu Pushelberg, an award winning interior design firm that specializes in the design of high-end hospitality and retail design is currently seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our Project Management team in our Toronto studio.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY: The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for facilitating the execution of a project and providing support during all phases of a project, with particular focus at the end of design development, during value engineering, review of construction documents and construction administration.


KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBITY:
- Meet with clients and consultants to organize, schedule and cost-out projects
- Prepare project schedules and obtain budget pricing from specialty contractors for specific projects
- Support design teams in getting custom samples made
- Monitor project schedules, budget costs, and ensure compliance with design intent
- Review job progress and address pricing and scheduling concerns directly with client
- Develop strategies for construction of projects, ie. Bid packages for tender, contractor selection and negotiation
- Review construction documents before they are issued to advise and flag potential design, construction and execution issues
- Initiate a hand-off meeting from Design Team to Project Management to review all necessary aspects for project design and construction
QUAIFICAITONS (necessary skills and experience required):
- At a minimum an Associate's Degree in a related field of Design (Interior design, Architecture, Industrial Design, Fashion design, etc.)
- 5 + years of work experience necessary
- Extensive knowledge of the Interior Design Profession
- MS Office, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, hand sketching skills are necessary for the position

Yabu Pushelberg, an award winning interior design firm that specializes in the design of high-end hospitality and retail design is currently seeking two Lighting Designers for our New York studio. We seek lighting designers who are highly creative with big ideas, artistic skill, technical knowledge and the ability to understand the subtlety and detail required to execute international luxury projects.

The overall scope of the role will be to take an artistic approach to creating innovative lighting concepts in association with our Design Teams and develop the lighting design from the broad overall perspective through individual detail refinement and specifications for our projects helping fulfill the vision.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Conceive, create and develop lighting concepts in collaboration with our Design Teams
- Create ideas for both new installations and lighting enhancement projects
- Ensure concept is executed through to project completion, including: final focusing, scene setting and evaluation of completed projects
- Convey ideas through renderings and sketches in response to project needs, translating such concepts into reality
- Review technical construction drawings and documents
- Prepare fixture schedules and specifications that fulfil the established design concept
- Prepare control intent diagrams, schedules
- Create mockups and/or attend reviews
- Research to identify lighting sources and luminaire types


Qualifications (necessary skills and experience required):
- Bachelor Degree from accredited university in Lighting Design, Interior Design, Architecture, Architectural Engineering or related design field
- 2 - 5 years of lighting design consultancy experience
- Professional registration, LC, CLD or CLC is an asset
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign, Sketch-up or other design programs
- Proficiency in AGI or other lighting design software
- Proficiency in the use of COMcheck
- Passion for lighting design and learning is a must
- Ability to switch and prioritize between several projects or tasks at once, demonstrating effective deadline management
- Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment
