Moments Find Their Form

An imaginative approach, bespoke attitude, and international collaborative ethos live at the core of cc-tapis’ work. In our collaboration, we aimed to bring the resonance of elusive moments into abstract compositions. They graciously provided us with a fresh canvas to translate personal memories, helping us create a 'Memento' that lives on the surface of a floor (or wall).

A Rug That Remembers Differently

The concept sprung from a memory of a surrealist black and white film George and Glenn saw at a young age where perspective was challenged and the lines between dream and reality were blurred. Using elusive and allusive references, we embarked on an exploration of irrational and subconscious aspects of the human mind. Paralleling the distortion, bending, reshaping, and vulnerability of memories, the patterns of the rugs do the same.

Three Dimensions Get Reimagined

 

Made of hand-dyed Tibetan wool, the Memento collection uses undyed, tone on tone variation. Traditional outlines of rugs were abandoned in favor of the squashed perception of three dimensional shapes suggested across the surfaces. Experimenting with different techniques and materials, each rug is unique, with some more geometric, architectural, and rigid in their approach while others are softer, tonal range with gentle shifts in colors.
