Natural Selection

The house was designed from the ground up, with constraints that required building around a protected landscape and sand dunes that separate the property from the ocean. What first appeared as a limitation shaped a quieter setting, offering greater privacy while immersing the home within the beach’s natural surroundings.

Upside Down

Drawing on principles used in yacht design, the layout was reversed to transform site constraints into spatial advantages. The main living and entertaining spaces rise above ground to capture ocean views, while the lower level creates sheltered zones of reprieve set within the dunes.

Shared Experience

The design flow is relaxed, playful, and nostalgic, bringing a sense of ease and discovery. Guest rooms include adult sized bunk beds, while a collection of outdoor areas reminiscent of an open air camp hall anchored around a large wood table set directly in the sand. Together, the sequence encourages connection among guests and a closer relationship with the surrounding beach landscape.

Shaped by The Elements

Many product collections were conceived in this house, including the Surf Sofa for Molteni&C and the Luna Lantern for Tribù, each influenced by the movement of wind and waves. Along the facade, adjustable louvered panels guide the interior perspective, extending the living space outward and tuning the light as it shifts through the day.

“Our home in Amagansett is where we gather with friends and family from near and far, our team, and occasionally, great people we may have only met a few days before. There is a sense of unity that reverberates from our home in Amagansett that makes guests feel like family. It is an abundantly special place for us, where we can step away from the city and reconnect with ourselves, our values, and nature.”
