Raw Talent

Finding space in a Richard Meier–designed building on Perry Street in Manhattan’s West Village was a blessing. With nothing but a toilet and a mirror to start, the absence of partitions was a blank slate that could easily have been misspent.

Slow Reveal

The elevator arrival and corridor layout began with a different approach. Rather than opening into a single space, an enveloping hall was placed at the core fostering a sense of intimacy and anticipation - a quiet transition into the living space that stirs curiosity about what lies beyond.

Public Private

Drawing clear distinction between public and private spaces with materials and layout, the design steers clear of the typical privacy drawbacks of modern loft-style language—while still offering generous spaces for entertaining. Hidden doors in paneling create private entrances to sleeping quarters that integrate quietly into the architecture and go unnoticed by guests.

Exhibitionists

Art is a central element of storytelling in all our designs. George and Glenn guide you through their home like curators, with a flow that mirrors the architecture. A six inch deep resin piece by Jim Campbell greets visitors upon arrival, drawing guests closer to experience its shifting light and depth. Around the corner, an Anish Kapoor sculpture appears in its pure, elemental form, creating a moment of awe-inspiring impact.

Working New Angles

We planned around the unique angles of the living area defined by structural pillars and created a bespoke ‘boomerang’ sofa that traces the room’s geometry. The piece also serves a dual-purpose lifestyle, doubling as a dining banquette during larger gatherings. The Perry Street Sofa is now produced by Avenue Road, the furniture company co-founded by George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg.

"Layered with deep, rich woods and sinuous silhouettes, the apartment is a testament to the timeless Fifth Avenue aesthetic that's seen George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg feted the world over (their beauty floor at Bergdorfs is still there 15 years later). It's a look that's elegant but not decadent, subtle yet memorable, gracious but not prim."
